SHINE BRIGHT, SAFELY! A GUIDE TO GLITTER EYES

Want to make a statement with your eyes? We've all heard that phrase a million times, and yes, personality is key, but when you want to make a real impact, glitter can be your best friend. It's been around forever and can really open up your eyes, giving them a three-dimensional look that can be seen from miles away. But do you know how to choose the right glitter and how to remove it without damaging your eyes? Discover the secrets to a safe and dazzling glitter makeup look!

CHOOSING THE RIGHT GLITTER

It might be tempting to grab some glitter from a craft store, but if you're planning to use it near your eyes, it's crucial to check the label for the word "ophthalmic." The skin around your eyes is ten times thinner than the rest of your face, so it needs products that are gentle and safe. While you might not be able to see it, larger glitter particles can create tiny scratches that can cause discomfort and even infection over time.

There are also many glitters available in liquid eyeliner or gel form, which are easy to apply but might limit your control over how much you use. If you prefer more control, you can opt for loose glitter and choose between chromatic and metallic finishes. Chromatic glitter reflects light at different angles, creating endless shimmering effects, while metallic glitter provides a more solid, shiny look.

HOW TO APPLY GLITTER

When it comes to glitter pastes and liners, there's no need to worry about an adhesive, as they usually come with one. However, these products tend to last for a shorter time and can be easier to remove. To extend the wear time, consider using a good makeup setting spray.

To apply loose glitter, start by preparing your eyelid. Apply an eyeshadow base or primer to ensure better adhesion. Then, use a flat, damp brush to pick up the glitter and gently press it onto your eyelid. For a more intense look, apply a layer of glitter glue before adding the glitter. To prevent fallout, use a piece of tape under your eye to catch any loose glitter.

TIME TO CLEAN UP

Before you reach for your makeup remover wipes or face wash, read this! Remember, glitter has a solid, sometimes sharp, texture. Rubbing your eyes can spread the glitter particles and cause further irritation. This might sound a bit strange, but you'll need some tape. Gently press the tape onto the area where you applied the glitter and carefully lift it off to remove the loose particles. Once the majority of the glitter is removed, you can use your favorite micellar water to clean the rest.
